Hi! And welcome to my second WIP round up.

Over the last couple of weeks I have still chipped away at my Camellia blanket (although I have slowed down somewhat!), but I have also started a new project.

I have had a 52×32 cm cushion insert lying around for ages (these ones were from Aldi and are massive for the price so definitely grab some if they have them in the future), and I had been planning on making a cushion cover for it, but despite starting a pattern it was just one of those projects that just wasn’t holding my attention, and so it has gone into the Bin of Despair, for a time when I can put some attention to it (yes the Bin of Despair is rather full). And so, naturally, I started a different one instead…

The Bin of Dispair!

When I subscribed to Simply Crochet last year, I was gifted this beautiful Scheepjes colour pack. It was so beautiful I didn’t want to use it for ages (I would have framed them and hung it on the wall 😂). But I got the urge to give it a go and came up with a design to use a lot of the colours in a sort of patchwork rainbow of little squares.

I’ve decided to make basket-weave squares and I love how simple this pattern is for how much texture it gives.

I measured the cushion and the sample square I made, and worked out I would need around 8 squares a row and 5 rows.

So I am now at the point where I’ve finished all the squares (it gets a bit addictive and that’s the kind of project I can work with), and I’m now at the stage where I am joining them. I’m also working on the back. I’ve decided to use a plain Aran weight yarn for the back. I went back and forth over whether I should just do a plain single or even half double crochet but opted in the end for a solid panel of basket-weave on the back too. I’m hoping that it could be used on either side then. I’m hoping to finish it off with tassels, which is exciting as I’ve never made any (I’m usually a pom pom kind of girl).

I will update you when it’s finished and I’m hoping to get the pattern written up for my Etsy store soon, so I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

The other project I started this week was the Cherish Romper by hellomooncrochet on Instagram. It looked so sweet, and I’ve just had a new nephew so I thought it would be perfect. It was turning out really well, it’s such an easy pattern to follow, but alas, I decided to play yarn chicken and I lost (yarn chicken, if you’re not familiar, is when you think you have – or you hope you have- enough yarn, if you don’t, you lose 😂). And so, that project has also temporarily hit the Bin of Despair, until I can either figure out which yarn it was (I hate lone balls of yarn), or I give up and start again.

I don’t know what it is about crocheters that mean we never feel we have enough WIPs to keep us going. As I write this I am already contemplating my next make, and I know I won’t be able hold off for long before making a start!

That’s all for this week’s WIP update. What are you up to this week? What project can’t you wait to start? Leave me a comment below.
