Hi!

I'm excited to be back writing with an awesome free crochet pattern for my mustard marl seat covers!

ree

We recently acquired a small table that came with two chairs. It was the perfect size for my two youngest kiddos to sit at for dinner, but, the seats were cream!

I don't know about you, but cream seats and kids do not go well together in my house. So I knew I wanted to create a cover that could be taken off easily and washed if needed.

A crochet seat cover is great as it also adds extra cushioning and warmth, so I got to work.

Take a look at my free seat cover pattern below!

I used two colors of Aran yarn and I worked them together as though they were one strand.

Mustard was my chosen base color, and this goes well with champagne white or a light grey, however, you could use whichever color combination suits your decor.

You'll need a 9mm hook for this project, some stitch markers, scissors, and a yarn needle.

Let's get started!

This pattern is for a seat that is 21 inches in diameter.

If your seat is slightly bigger or smaller you may need to adjust the number of rounds where you increase.

You want it to reach the edge of your seat without going over the side before you make the corners.

You will be using the following stitches,

  • Slip stitch (slst)

  • Single crochet (sc)

  • Half double crochet (hdc)

  • Double crochet (dc)

  • Treble crochet (tr)

  • Chain (ch)

Round 1 - Begin by making 6 single crochets [sc] into a magic ring (6)

Round 2 - Make a single crochet increase (2 stitches into the same stitch) in every stitch around (12)

Round 3 - 1 sc, increase [inc] in the next, repeat this 6 times [x6] (18)

ree

Round 4 - 2 hdc, inc, x6 (24)

Round 5 - 3 hdc, inc, x6 (30)

Round 6 - 4 hdc, inc, x6 (36)

ree

I'm now going to do a single crochet row, followed by three rows of half-double crochets and follow in this pattern.

Round 7 - 5 sc, inc, x6 (42)

Round 8 - 6 hdc, inc, x6 (48)

Round 9 - 7 hdc, inc, x6 (54)

Round 10- 8 hdc, inc, x6 (60)

Round 11 - 9 sc, inc, x6 (66)

Round 12 - 10 hdc, inc, x6 (72)

Round 13 - 11 hdc, inc, x6 (78)

Round 14 - 12 hdc, inc, x6 (84)

Round 15 - 13 sc, inc, x6 (90)

Round 16 - 14 hdc, inc, x6 (96)

Round 17 - sc in every stitch around (96)

Now place your cover onto your seat, and use stitch markers to mark out the corners. There should be 13 stitches on each side and there should be 11 stitches across each corner.

I positioned mine so the stitch I last worked on was at the beginning of a side.

We're now going to work the corner rounds.

Round 18 - (If you are starting this round at the beginning of a corner you will do your group of single crochets after the corner stitches.)

*Sc 13, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, (tr, ch1, tr into same stitch), dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc*.

Repeat from * to * until you finish the round (100)

Round 19 - *Slst 14, sc, sc, hdc, hdc, hdc, (dc, ch1, dc into the chain space from round 18), hdc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc*.

Repeat from * to * until you finish the round (104). Fasten off, and weave in the ends.

You've now finished the cover but you haven't finished the project just yet. Next, cut three strands of yarn (work out how long you want them to be. They need to be double the length you'll need to be able to tie them around the leg and in a bow)

Loop the three strands through a stitch on the corner, make sure you have 6 equal length strands, and tie a knot to fix it in place.

ree

(Make them longer than in the picture! This was my first attempt and they were too short but you can see how I tied them on)

Next, take three strands and make a plait and tie at the end, then repeat for the other three strands.

ree

Once you've made one for each corner, stretch the cover over the seat and make bows around each leg with the ties.

On our chairs, we also have a bar across the back so I added two more to stop it slipping forward with little shuffling bums but this is optional if you don't have a bar on your chairs.

ree

There you go! This is a quick project that can be easily completed in one weekend and they'll make your chairs look so lush.

I really hope you love this pattern. Please share, and tag me on Instagram (@made_lovingly) if you make some I love to see your projects.

Keep on crocheting and I'll see you soon!
