Well hello!
It's been a hot minute right? I'm sorry I have been distant on here it has been a bit busy what with having another toddler in the house, going back to work after maternity, and three other children having to be intermittently home schooled!
But I'm back with a free pattern to tickle your taste buds, quite literally!
It's nearly the end of the school term and we're gearing up for summer, but before we go off I can't help but want to thank our amazing teachers who have gone through a lot lately, lets be honest.
I loved making some little snowmen chocolate orange covers at Christmas so I thought, what about adapting them into apples for a cheap and easy end of term gift to give to their teachers?
Here is the finished article, an orange in an apple, and I think it's rather sweet in more ways than one, don't you?
They don't take long at all, so a nice little project especially if you need to make 5 in a week, like me.
I used Paintbox Simply DK in red and an olive green, and the brown was out of my stash, also dk.
The pattern is down below for free to enjoy!

Using a 4mm hook, start with brown,
1- Make a magic ring and sc 6 (6)
2-3- Sc 6 (6), join the red on,
4- Sc 6 (6)
5- Inc around (12)
6- 'Inc, sc' x 6 (18)
7- 'Inc, sc 2' x 6 (24)
8- 'Inc, sc 3' x 6 (30)
9- 'Inc, sc 4' x 6 (36)
10 - 'Inc, sc 5' x 6 (42)
11-17- Sc around (42)
18- 'Dec, sc 5' x 6 (36)
19-20- Sc around (36)
21- 'Dec, sc 4' x 6 (30), fasten off.
For the leaf, use an olive green and 4mm hook,
Leaving a 3 inch starting tail, ch 9+1.
We're going to be working in both sides of the chain.
Start by putting one sc into the second chain from the hook, and continue as follows,
Sc, hdc, dc in the next 3, hdc, sc in the last two, and then go round the bend and work up the other side of the chain, repeating sc in the first two ch, hdc, dc in the next 3, hdc, sc in the last two. Fasten off leaving 4 inches, sew in the end so it meets up with the starting tail. Use both strands to secure the leaf to the apple.
And there you have it a lovely little gift to say thank you to their favourite teacher!
You could embroider a little face or stick a felt face on, I think I'm going to make a little 'best teacher' tag to hang round the stem on mine.
Enjoy your summer, I hope I will be back with more patterns soon!
Please feel free to tag me if you make one. You can find me on Instagram under @made_lovingly.
Take care and I'll write again soon!
